VW Bus Suspension FAQ
VW Bus Suspension Components - Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit my bus? (Bay Window vs. Split Window)
VW bus suspension components are generation-specific. Bay Window buses (1968-1979) and Split Window buses (1950-1967) require different parts due to different front beam designs and mounting points. Always verify your bus year and model before ordering. Contact us if you're unsure about fitment.
Do I need special tools to install suspension components?
Basic suspension installation requires standard hand tools, a floor jack, and jack stands. Most all parts we sell are bolt-in. Very few will need any welding or cutting. We recommend professional installation if you're not experienced with VW suspension work.
How much will an Adjustable Beam and Straight Axle kit lower my bus?
Lowering amounts vary by component. Flipped spindles typically lower 3 inches, adjustable beam kits offer 1-6 inches of adjustment, and Dropped Adjustable spring plates provide 1-2 inches of adjustment, Plus the 3" drop from removing the reduction boxes. . Check individual product specifications for exact measurements. Remember that extreme lowering can affect ride quality and ground clearance.
What are EZ-IRS kits and do I need one?
EZ-IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) kits are a popular upgrade for VW buses that convert the stock swing axle or reduction box rear suspension to a modern independent rear suspension system. These kits dramatically improve handling, ride quality, and safety by eliminating the swing axle's tendency to tuck under during hard cornering. If you're building a performance bus, doing a lot of highway driving, or want modern handling characteristics, an EZ-IRS kit is one of the best upgrades you can make. They're especially popular for lowered buses where the stock suspension geometry causes high speed handling issues.
Can I mix and match suspension components from different manufacturers?
While some components are compatible across brands, we recommend using complete matched sets when possible for optimal performance and safety. Mixing components can lead to fitment issues. If you're building a custom setup, contact us for compatibility guidance.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship VW suspension components worldwide. International shipping costs and delivery times vary by location. All international orders are calculated at checkout with duties and taxes estimated where applicable.
